Climb Aboard! Qualification in Accounting and book-keeping

The project

The observation of the job market and the number of job advertising in the region of Lake Constance, focal point Ravensburg, shows that in accounting offices and trade businesses a high demand for qualified workers in the areas of tax accounting and book-keeping exists. Parallel to that, job seekers in this profession could not be placed due to a lack of the required knowledge and competences. Also a strong influx of qualified professionals in the rurally structured economic region of Ravensburg could not be counted on.

For that reason concepts were made for qualification measures in accounting and bookkeeping targeted at jobseekers and sales professional seeking re-entry into the job market. The demand for the qualification was significant. 17 women, mostly those seeking job market re-entry, enrolled.

Offered within the framework of a part-time course, the qualification was composed of the following modules: general computer skills (MS Office, Internet), specific computer skills (DATEV, Lexware), office management and communication. It also included job application training, accounting of salaries and wages, book balancing, bookkeeping, accounting, business law and small business start-ups.

On the 20th of December each of the seventeen women successfully completed the qualification programme. Four of them found immediate employment. Within the first month of the following year six others found the positions they desired in the areas in which they wished to work and also in agreement with their time demands (part-time employment). Mail responses to the applications of the remaining 7 group members have not been received.
