BQM – Vocational orientation and qualification for female migrants

The project

In today’s complex and ever-changing working world female migrants are especially affected by unemployment. The source of this phenomenon lies in communication deficiencies, lack of education and/or insufficient job qualification. An additional negative is the  fact that female migrants often work in jobs which require a minimum of training, performing simple tasks of a type that make them, due to rationalisation and technological alternatives, expendable.

We believe that a command of the German language is a key to the improvement of the personal, social and economical situation of female migrants. Also, it is important that women receive qualification as well as support during vocational orientation. Only when all of these needs are met will successful integration into the society and improvement of their chances of partaking in the labour market become possible.

The course, which included 3 modules per year offered, along with instruction in the German language, vocational and civil-law training as well as IT and job application training. It also offered integration assistance and help in dealing with everyday problems.

During the course the women received social-pedagogical support. Following the phase of vocational orientation and qualification a 4 weeks practical training in an enterprise offered the opportunity to collect initial experience in working life. The women choosed the enterprises themselves due to their vocational wishes.
