Fit for Europe - Specialist for European Office Management

The project

Europe is simultaneously growing and coming together – this is accompanied by increasing demands placed upon workers, especially in business professions. Here, the importance of foreign language and computer skills is climbing. The Kolping Training Centre in Ravensburg has designed a part-time qualification for European office management that aimed at women who seek employment and those who wish to return to their professions after maternity leave. A prerequisite for participation in the part-time qualification was that women who possess a “Realschulabschluss” (secondary school certificate) also have received certification in a commercial-technical, administrative-technical or office-technical area and respectively have job experience in one of the afore mentioned fields.

Classes were held mornings which made the program flexible with respect to familial constraints on the participants. The subject matter of the classes was computer applications, Business theory such as Economics, European Law Marketing and Office Management. Other important subjects were Business English, intercultural and social competence, communication and job application training.

These subjects were usability and needs oriented and offered the women the possibility of updating their professional knowledge and competences, to deepen and to expand them as well. Seventeen women took advantage of this chance and successfully completed the qualification in December 2005.
