InCoso – Intercultural Competencce for employees in the social field

The project

Intercultural competence training for employees in the social field was at the centre stage of the partnership project. Educational institutions and NGOs in Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece and Wales dealt with this topic in order to anchor or improve intercultural issues in the training offered.

In the beginning of the project information on ways in which intercultural issues are currently addressed in partner institutions was shared and surveys about intercultural training needs were implemented in all partner countries, addressing learners, employees and employers in the social field. This was followed by the development of country-specific and general recommendations for intercultural competence training, based on the results of the research. The recommendations were implemented and tested in the partner institutions in the framework of pilot actions and at workshops during projects meetings, involving teaching staff and students. A website was developed in order to disseminate the recommendations and training materials which are available in English and all partner languages. Additional resources, corresponding links and references are available on the project website as well.

The research and development of recommendations was accompanied by a series of meetings, exercises and workshops involving teaching staff and learners. Some results of the workshops were made public, e. g. at a photo exhibition during the meeting in Leuven, Belgium or on the website.
